¤ beaches

Bias belted by a succession of beaches, Cap Ferret offers a wide choice at all amateur swimming and relaxing on the sand.
-- At Basin, the range of Americans (near the landing) and the Mimbeau are certainly among the most enjoyable.
-- The beaches of Pointe also remain very popular and appreciated, partly because of the panorama and sight offered on the Dune du Pilat. Attention, however, the currents, which can be quickly here very violent.
-- Finally, later Ocean, access to many beaches have also been arranged along the Avenue de Bordeaux. Note however that only the beach is located at the point of arrival of the tramway has a forest area of bathing monitored during the summer period. |
¤ La Pointe

Meeting between the Atlantic Ocean and the Bassin d'Arcachon, the Pointe du Cap Ferret sees each day clash of forces whose power defies the imagination.
For this reason, the 170 hectares of dunes that form the Pointe are now owned by the Conservatoire du Littoral and Rivages Lacustres. They are thus subject to protection and constant monitoring.
There remains the site, exceptional for its beauty and its allure of a small piece of the world, ranking the first among those whose discovery remains absolutely essential.

¤ Le Minbeau

This amazing sand dam, which some believe sometimes artificial, was actually formed at the same time that the peninsula.
In a width of approximately 30 metres and extending over nearly 800 metres, Mimbeau offers a magnificent natural protection to the oyster village of Cap Ferret.
Its location is also a place very much appreciated by all lovers relax on the sand. |
¤The village oyster

Although the vocation resort of Cap Ferret has continued to strengthen in recent years, the village has retained a small pole oyster very active. It was here that came to settle its original inhabitants, fishermen from La Teste and Gujan-Mestras, shortly after the construction of the lighthouse found the perfect place, partly because of the presence of Mimbeau which offered a magnificent natural protection.
Located on the street Conche on the seafront, the oyster village of Cap Ferret is now home to several houses of fishermen whose decoration and many keys are often brightly coloured admiration walkers.
A note in small streets adjoining the presence of many craftsmen, potters and artists painter who contribute greatly to enhance the charm of this area very pleasant. |
¤ lighthouse

Built in 1839, the lighthouse of Cap Ferret was destroyed in 1944, under occupation. It was rebuilt from 1946 and inaugurated on August 7, 1949. With an optical system over a tonne based on a bath of mercury, fire red is visible up to 50 kilometers at sea Top 52 metres, one must climb 258 steps to reach the summit, but the effort is largely rewarded by the beautiful scenery offered on the Bassin d'Arcachon.
The lighthouse can be visited throughout the summer (entrance fee). |
